And that's the end...

With that last assignment posted, I have officially completed my blog assignment. So, this blog shall be used no longer. My main blog, however, will obviously still be used.

So, this is going to be the final post on this blog.

~Never imagined we'd end like this~

#5 Enough's enough...

I had anticipated that it would happen, I knew it would come in Sec 2, but it still caught me completely off guard... >.<

Oh, I just realised no one knows what I am talking about. Enlightenment time. :D

S. T. R. E. S. S.

So Tis Really Enormously Stressful Schooling

Haha. XD

Anyway, when I found out that SYF would be this year, I had long expected this stress to set in, but little did I know that I had completely underestimated just what I was dealing with. It came so fast it hit even harder than a truck. :(

Packed schedules, HOARDS of homework. The average components of a teenager's life. Well, if it were NORMAL practices, it would be ok, but apparently these few months will not be very "normal", so to speak. This is in preparation for the SYF - Singapore Youth Festival competition which will be held in April. We have an average of 3 practices each week, each practice lasting around 3 to 4 hours with barely any breaks. And the seniors' high expectations certainly do not help much...

Also, we had changed sections from our previous SATB (Soprano Alto Tenor Bass) sections. I screwed mine bad, and got transferred from Alto to Bass. Not the best transfer, surely. :(

Then there was the problem of CNY performance practice. The performance is next Wednesday, leaving us with very little time for preparation, increasing our practice days by one, for a total of four glorious days. O.O Not that I'm complaining though. :P

And that's the part of this incredibly toxic equation. Next, the terror. THE FLOOD THAT IS HOMEWORK OVERLOAD.

Now, this one is actually the "universal norm" in schools, so I'm not going into too much detail (The post is long enough as it is). Secondary school is when the homework load starts to build up. And it hits hard and fast. Add in the packed schedules, you ain't going to get a very optimistic result.

In a nutshell, the average teen life can be put simply in this equation.

Packed Schedules + Homework overload = Epic disaster

And as I write this final assignment post, I still have homework waiting.

And enough's enough, the limit is near breached.

#4 The Sec 3 takes charge

A usual choir practice would start like this - The choir committee would already be in the room when we get there, and the chairman would be the one to inform us when we were to go in, and give a slight briefing where required. We would then move in. However, yesterday's practice was not to be the same.

Yesterday, we were chatting away like we normally do before every practice. However, what we did not notice was that the number of shoes outside the choir room was... ZILCH. (Not surprising that we did not see it, we never look in that direction till it was time to go in.)

Needless to say, when WenYu, the only Sec 3 in the committee, called us into the room, we unsurprising sensed that there was something unusual. Our suspicions were further deepened when we noticed the startling lack of shoes. I recall overhearing WenYu telling someone that there was no one inside as I was walking to place my shoes.

When we went in, the room was surprisingly bare. We confirmed our suspicions there and then - Every single one of the sec 4s were not around. Now the burning question was, WHY were they not around? Being typical singaporeans, we did what "kaypos" would do - ASK. And who did we ask? Seniors, obviously. We soon managed to acquire the information we sought - The sec 4s were having their Mother Tongue mock exam. It was estimated to last through half the practice, which meant we were stuck with only sec 3s to lead the choir, much like what would happen again in 5 more months, in June, when we have the committee handover. Having said that, this was actually a good time to estimate the choir's strength without the Sec 4s.

Since we were without practically the whole committee, who was to conduct warm-ups? Usually, it was the Student Conductor who did this, but he was one of the sec 4s. So, the burden fell on WenYu's shoulders. Despite it being his first time taking warm-ups, however, he did almost as well as the SC did! Future Student Conductor material! :D

The practice was for the CNY concert which would be held next wednesday. A little rushed, I know. We only got the score for one of songs recently. Thankfully it's not too long, nor difficult. The only tricky part is the dynamics, as usual. >.<

We will be having another practice tomorrow, and I can sense that it will not be going smoothly. :( Wish us luck! :D

This was one of the songs we performed at the Sec One Open House 2010, along with When You Believe by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. :)

#3 Executed Fan :O

Topic : Something unusual that happened that day
-------------------------------------------------------
It started like any other schooling day - Waking up, washing up, taking a quick breakfast and heading off to school. Lessons went on normally for the first half of the day, but apparently "normal" was never destined to be the adjective for the day...

During recess, it came to my attention that there was a small fan at the back of the classroom. I guess it might have been there long before I noticed. Anyway, that is beside the point. During Literature lesson, we suddenly heard a loud sound, something like a thud. We turned in the direction of the sound, and lo and behold, the fan had been "beheaded"! :O Like, literally. The "head" part of the fan had been literally ripped out and was in my classmate's hand. Interestingly, there was still a piece of wire connecting the "head" and the "body" of the fan. Quite a hilarious sight, really.

Somehow, my classmate "fixed" the fan somewhat, and it was back in operation. However, history was apparently on "replay" and repeated itself soon. In english class, right after literature, we heard another thud. This time, however, we instantly turned to the fan and, sure enough, the fan had been "beheaded". AGAIN! :O

Of course, it was soon fitted back together. :D

This incident was really unusual as we do not usually see "executions by beheading" for fans, if even at all. Wait, we do not, as fans are non-living things. Oh well. :P

I sure hope my character will not be as breakable as the fan! XD

#2 You ain't gonna bring me down anymore

Theme chosen: A moment spent doing something which i enjoyed
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone has a hobby, and obviously I am not one of those rare exceptions. Also my hobby is one of the common ones - listening to music and singing.

My phone - Nokia X6 smartphone, is a phone in the "Xpressmusic" series of Nokia, so it functions as a music phone as well. This is perfect for one of my hobbys, as it allows for high quality music to be played through my earphones, allowing me to lose myself in the song world for the limited time I can. Usually this is the duration of a bus journey, as the journey from my house to Victoria School, where I study, takes about 40 to 50 minutes, and it gets really boring when you have to listen to the rumble of the engines and the chatter of many people on the bus when you have no one to talk to, that is when my phone comes in handy. :D

And that is one of hobbies, one of which many other people share, from children to adults alike. Yay. :D And then there's my other hobby... One not as common, but still common nonetheless - Singing. :D

Of course, given this hobby, it should come as no surprise that I would join the choir of my school. Furthermore, it was one of the top performing CCAs in my school! BONUS! =D

However, as such a good CCA, it went without saying that it would have a high selection criteria. I suppose I was lucky to have been chosen, as my batch had a higher number of people being selected as opposed to other years. So, I suppose it is safe to say that I was really lucky that my batch had more people selected. :D

Of course, everything is meant to have its own special set of critics. Sadly, these critics are merciless in their
opinions and care little for their "victims". It's really unfortunate, to have to deal with such criticism. And now, let me talk about the criticism I have received.

Where singing is concerned, there are a few types of opinions which may be given by critics. For example, Pitching, Tune, Volume, etc. The most common one I've received is probably pitching. I've never been too good with controlling my falsetto - Fake voice. This version of the singing voice allows for an alternate pitch to your voice. For example, a person with a broken voice would have a falsetto of higher pitch. Falsetto, however, is hard to control at times, at least for me it is. I tend to go off-key and off-pitch when we go to the more extreme parts. It would normally end up with me going sharp or flat, which probably landed me in the section Bass. :(

However, I am not losing hope. I will continue to train my falsetto and hopefully get back to my original section, Alto, soon. And I have one thing to say to all the critics who mercilessly knock people down on their feet with their reckless criticism. "You people ain't gonna bring us down like that, never ever."

And words won't bring us down. :)

#1 JUNIORS!!!! =D

Theme chosen: Something that happened in school that day
-----------------------------------------------------------
Today was the day I had been looking forward to since the start of 2011 - The day that the secondary ones came to choir! =D

Before practice started, however, I had not known that they had come. It was only when I went to the choir room and saw an unusually large number of shoes outside (There are normally only 3 to 5 pairs, but today there were around 20) that I knew that the juniors had arrived. Naturally the secondary twos were all excited, this being our first day being seniors in the choir.

We eagerly waited for practice to start, and when it did, we rushed in to see our juniors. There weren't many, but we had expected that long ago as there was an announcement stating which CCAs had the least number of new members a few days ago, and choir was amongst the CCAs mentioned. But even then, there were still a relatively average number of juniors there, and I heard there are still more. :D

Practice was different today as we had to teach the new secondary ones the songs we will be singing for SYF. As we had already learned these songs during the holidays, it was good revision for us. Also, it would enable us to teach the secondary ones more effectively should they require help, and this would spare our section leader the trouble of attending to many of them at the same time.

I am sure that with these new juniors, VS Choir will be even stronger and I wish them a good time in choir. :D I am certain they will love it. :)

This was one of the songs we learned last year and was performed for Rhapsody IX. It was one of my favourite songs. :D
