A usual choir practice would start like this - The choir committee would already be in the room when we get there, and the chairman would be the one to inform us when we were to go in, and give a slight briefing where required. We would then move in. However, yesterday's practice was not to be the same. Yesterday, we were chatting away like we normally do before every practice. However, what we did not notice was that the number of shoes outside the choir room was... ZILCH. (Not surprising that we did not see it, we never look in that direction till it was time to go in.)
Needless to say, when WenYu, the only Sec 3 in the committee, called us into the room, we unsurprising sensed that there was something unusual. Our suspicions were further deepened when we noticed the startling lack of shoes. I recall overhearing WenYu telling someone that there was no one inside as I was walking to place my shoes.
When we went in, the room was surprisingly bare. We confirmed our suspicions there and then - Every single one of the sec 4s were not around. Now the burning question was, WHY were they not around? Being typical singaporeans, we did what "kaypos" would do - ASK. And who did we ask? Seniors, obviously. We soon managed to acquire the information we sought - The sec 4s were having their Mother Tongue mock exam. It was estimated to last through half the practice, which meant we were stuck with only sec 3s to lead the choir, much like what would happen again in 5 more months, in June, when we have the committee handover. Having said that, this was actually a good time to estimate the choir's strength without the Sec 4s.
Since we were without practically the whole committee, who was to conduct warm-ups? Usually, it was the Student Conductor who did this, but he was one of the sec 4s. So, the burden fell on WenYu's shoulders. Despite it being his first time taking warm-ups, however, he did almost as well as the SC did! Future Student Conductor material! :D
The practice was for the CNY concert which would be held next wednesday. A little rushed, I know. We only got the score for one of songs recently. Thankfully it's not too long, nor difficult. The only tricky part is the dynamics, as usual. >.<We will be having another practice tomorrow, and I can sense that it will not be going smoothly. :( Wish us luck! :D
This was one of the songs we performed at the Sec One Open House 2010, along with When You Believe by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. :)
